Photography

So the other week I brought myself a nice digital SLR camera. I have wanted one for a while now but I didn't really want to spend lots of money. It started when I was looking at a lot of pictures everywhere like flickr etc and they all look amazing, I wanted to be able to take pictures like that. At that time I didn't want to spend thousands on a SLR so I decided to get a standard compact camera.
My idea was that I thought that if I get a fairly expensive compact camera maybe I would be able to to take some pictures like an SLR, but that didn't quite work out as planned. The pictures I took still looked "normal" I didn't really know what the difference between a SLR and a compact camera image was, but I could SEE it.
I also wanted to take "interesting" photos, what I mean by this is images that you can usually see with the naked eye. For instance images that have been taken with a longer exposure time or with a fast shutter speed etc.

The more it stuck in my mind the more I thought about it, every picture I looked at from then on I noticed you could tell what type of camera it was taken with.
Then recently I decided I would get a DSLR camera, I looked around on the internet and found quite a lot of bargins so in the end I decided to get a Nikon D80, I found lots of positive reviews on it and it also came with a decent package with a len.

So now that I had my camera I took me a little while to understand all the features it has. (I still don't understand some of them now) I've taken a few pictures now and I understand what that difference that I was trying to get at before, it was 'depth of field' its strange how this small feature can make a huge difference to a picture. If you don't know what I mean by dof, its when the subject of a image is in focus and the background is out of focus.

I've been playing around with my camera now and I'm still just experimenting with the different settings, but I'm really interested in night photography, so I'm going to try and see what happens I guess.
I'll be uploading most of my pictures on my website, which can be found at www.kevin1ee.com

Thats all for today.
